Domain Names
A good domain name can make a lot of
difference to the number of visitors your site has.
Factors to Consider
The Name
- Relevant
- Short
- Avoid dashes and underscore
characters
- Be easy to spell
- Be easy to remember
The Ending
- .com domains command most respect
- .co.uk and other national domains
will be found more easily by people searching in that country. These
domains are also seen as being especially relevant to that country.
There are limitations on who can buy National Domain names
- .info domains can be bought very
cheaply so have acquired a reputation as poor quality spam sites
Cost
Cost does vary enormously from one
reseller to another. If you buy a new domain name you should be
able to buy it for $10 or less.
Shop around. 10 GBP a year is a lot more than 10 USD or 10 Euro.

Domain Name Resellers
These are the companies where most
people buy the web address they want.
It is easier when it comes time to renew your domains if they are all
bought from one company, that will still be around next year and the
year after.
There are lots of domain name reselling websites, I buy all my domains
from Bluehost
because I like their simple interface and their low stress website.
Bluehost have been around for a while
and have always been helpful and reliable.
I am very wary of using one of the thousands of other resellers who
have set up business for $59, complete with glitzy website.
All resellers have databases of
available names which are updated in
real time, so any name should be equally available from every reseller.
