Link In
Fact - Search engines follow links
around the Internet. They will find your site by following links from
other sites.
Search engines see links as a measure of how important your site
is.
6 Ways to get links INWARDS.
1. Buy links
Don't do it. Some search engines see
this as cheating and will not list your site because you cheated.
2. Link exchanges
Very difficult for new sites because the
other party gains very little in this type of unfair exchange.
Your web host may agree to a link exchange.
Link exchanges are of little use in increasing your search engine
ranking, but may be useful to get your site found.
3. Web Directories
There are hundreds of directories on the Internet. Some will list your
site for free, others charge you or insist on a link exchange.

4. Link in from a blog
Blogging software usually posts a
message to search engines whenever the blog is updated.
You can set up your own blog(weblog) on Blogger.com very easily. Or you
can set up a WordPress blog on your own web host.
One strategy I am trying is to set up a wordpress blog using the domain
name I am building a site on. Once the blog is indexed in the major
search engines, simply over write it with your new content.
5. Ask someone for a link
If you know anyone who has a website on
a related topic, ask them for a link to get you started. They should be
willing to leave the link in place for 12 months if you are to get the
full benefit.
You can offer to return the favour next year, when your site has been
indexed by Google and Yahoo.
6. Contribute to forum
discussions
Be careful how you do this. Blatant
advertizing in forums is frowned upon.
You are usually allowed to show a link in the context of a helpful
forum posting.
Sometimes this may be in the body of the post, sometimes in your
"signature".
